Ohio Firefighter Charged in Apparatus Crash

Dec. 25, 2015
Six firefighters were injured when the Hubbard Township apparatus left the roadway and crashed into a culvert.

A Hubbard Township firefighter was charged with failing to maintain control of a fire apparatus that crashed and left the road on Wednesday.

Firefighters were responding to a burning complaint just after 1 a.m. when the apparatus, driven by Thomas Gregory, 60, ended up in a culvert and crashed into a tree.

Six firefighters were hurt and taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, according to WKBN.com. They were treated and released.

Gregory was charged with failure to maintain reasonable control, according to the Ohio State Patrol.

“There was a considerable amount of damage to the truck, obviously leaving the roadway, striking the culvert...That’s a lot of damage,” Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Brian Holt said.

Eagle Joint Fire District Fire Chief Ron Stanish said the crew was responding in a non-emergency mode and speed was not a factor in the crash.

The rig suffered extensive damage.
