Cause Sought in Baltimore Warehouse Blaze

Dec. 31, 2015
It took several hours on New Year's Eve for crews to control the flames.

Dozens of Baltimore firefighters spent New Year's Eve battling a three-alarm fire at a warehouse.

Crews were summoned to the 1700 block of Ellwood Avenue around 3:45 p.m. and heavy black smoke was visible from the one-story structure.

Among the businesses at the warehouse are a Furniture Depot, American Freight, Furniture and Mattress and Best Granite Marble Inc.

The building backed up to the Baltimore Cemetery and Baltimore Capt. Roman Clark told WMAR that it limited firefighters' access.

At one point, crews radioed that a section of the building collapsed.

A Snorkel was used with several elevated and ground-based master streams.

Officers at a nearby police station spotted the smoke and called for assistance.

The investigation into the cause and extent of damages continued New Year's Day.
