Two Prince George's County firefighters were injured Monday night after their ambulance crashed into a light pole.
The crash happened on Interstate 495 near St. Barnabas Road after the ambulance was sideswiped. The striking stopped 200 yard from the crash scene, according to Prince George's County Fire Spokesman Mark Brady.
The ambulance struck a light pole and the light fell onto a passing vehicle. The pierced the roof of the car and passed just behind the driver's head before piercing the floor and stopping when it struck pavement (see video below).
The two paramedic on board Ambulance 821, from the Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire Department, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"Both crew members transported, now in stable condition. Thank you for well wishes," Fire Chief Marc Bashoor tweeted from the scene.
