A brand new pumper that was being delivered to the Islip Terrace Fire Department crashed Tuesday afternoon.
The Seagrave rig was about 100 miles from its new home when it left the roadway on Interstate 84 in Hopewell Junction. It appears to have driven off the left shoulder of the road into a culvert.
"It was a brand new fire truck being delivered," New York State Police Spokeswoman Melissa McMorris told the Poughkeepsie Journal.
The driver was taken to Danbury Hospital in Connecticut and the extent of the injuries are not known.
Traffic backed up several miles as crews worked to pull the rig back to the street.
Just about a month ago, a Greenville, Texas fire apparatus crashed into a Dairy Queen as it was being returned from the maintenance shop.
The maintenance company driver said he was distracted when the crash occurred.
