A Highland Park Fire Department aerial caught fire returning from a mutual aid call, causing extensive damage to the apparatus.
According to the television station WXYZ, firefighter were returning from Detroit where they were assisting with down power lines during last week’s windstorm when the engine caught fire.
The fire heavily damaged the apparatus, leaving the community without an aerial, the station reported.
Fire Chief Kevin Coney told the television station it will count on neighbors for aerial protection while the damage is assessed and the insurance company figures out what to do next.
