Tempest Technology Corporation, a company known for its innovation in fire service ventilation, has recently made a significant update to its line of PathMaster smoke curtains, more than doubling the heat resistance of the product’s fabric, from 500°F to over 1,100°F.

The improvement is due to a change in fabric, which makes up a majority of the tool and is at the heart of its use. The smoke curtain is now constructed of an all new fiberglass weave with fire resistant silicone allowing for this dramatic improvement to be possible.

Unveiled in 2013, the PathMaster smoke curtain is a rapid deployment barrier designed for a number of uses and applications in the fire service. It was originally designed in Germany over a decade ago and has since become a necessary tool for all German fire brigades in controlling smoke spread. Tempest helped bring the tool to the US with interest in its ability to not only control smoke, but also to aid firefighters in controlling structure flow paths – primarily at the point of entry. There are also a number of US fire departments currently using the PathMaster to increase the effectiveness of positive pressure ventilation during overhaul.
