Firefighters from a number of departments helped evacuate residents from the apartment building for seniors.

Dozens of residents of a senior apartment complex in Tinely Park were evacuated during a fire Monday evening.

A woman who was carried out of the building by firefighters suffered burns,

"Our firefighters did an awesome job getting in there as quick as they did. They physically had to carry the lady out of the building into the ambulance that was waiting," Tinley Park Fire Chief Steve Klotz told abc7.

Elevators were used as firefighters evacuated the residents.

"Obviously, the smoke is a big condition that we have to make sure that that's cleared before we let anybody back in," Klotz said.

The cause remains under investigation.
