24 Hurt, 1 Killed in Akron, OH, Shooting

Shots rang out just after midnight at an Akron intersection and several of the injured people were driven to area hospitals.

Akron officials said some of those injured in an early Sunday shooting morning were in critical condition. 

Shots rang out shortly after midnight at Kelly and 8th avenues with several people suffering gun shot wounds.

Twenty five people were injured in the shooting, Akron Capt. Michael Miller told WLWT.com.

One of those victims, a 27-year-old male, died from their injuries, police told News5Cleveland.com.

Officials said several victims were taken to the hospital right after the shooting and hospital staff notified police about the many patients they received. 

Police told News5Cleveland that a street party was taking place nearby when the shooting occurred. 

The cause of the shooting is under investigation.
