Marine Gets Hitched in Virginia Fire Station

Feb. 24, 2015
The Arlington County firefighters stepped up when Mother Nature threw a curve.

Firefighters are known to spring into action to people in distress. And in Virginia on Saturday it was a Marine and his bride who needed assistance.

Mother Nature had thrown the couple a curve. The pipes in the venue where they were supposed to exchange vows froze. Then, the minister cancelled saying it was too dangerous to drive.

But, they were determined as the groom was being deployed on Sunday.

With 25 family, friends and firefighters looking on, the couple said their "I dos" in Arlington County Fire Station 5.

A minister from National Airport performed the ceremony, according to WTOP.

When the unusual telephone call came Saturday evening, firefighters quickly cleaned the engine room floor and the bathrooms. A room also was swept out for a changing room for the wedding party. They also gathered chairs for the guests.

When it was time for the couple's first dance, they turned on the radio and set the mood with flashing lights from the apparatus.

And, the firefighters gave their guests red plastic helmets.

The bride was so impressed that firefighters were included in many of the wedding photos.
