Hoover Named Superintendent at National Fire Academy

Former State Fire Marshal Tonya Hoover was recently named superintendent of the National Fire Academy.

Former State Fire Marshal Tonya Hoover was named superintendent of the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy (NFA) in May.

As superintendent, Hoover will provides leadership for the NFA, which focuses on enhancing the ability of fire and emergency services and allied professionals to deal more effectively with fire and related emergencies.

Hoover is an accomplished executive with more than 20 years of management experience in both local and state government, according to a release from the U.S. Fire Administration

She served as California State Fire Marshal from July 2009 to July 2016 and was responsible for fire prevention, fire service training, pipeline safety, code and regulations development, and analysis and implementation. Prior to that, Hoover served as the California Assistant State Fire Marshal, a fire marshal/battalion chief at a fire department and a deputy campus fire marshal for the University of California at Berkeley.

Other leadership roles have included the Board of Directors for the National Fire Protection Association and the International Fire Service Training Association, and a committee member with the International Code Council.
