A Pennsylvania fire chief is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old junior firefighter last year.
Kevin Mains, the chief with the Strong Fire Company in Mount Carmel, faces five felony charges, including sexual assault, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault by a nonprofit employee or volunteer, and corruption of a minor, the Shenandoah Sentinel reports. He also is charged with misdemeanor indecent assault.
Mains, 42, turned himself in to Coal Township police Friday and was being held on $100,000 bail.
Authorities allege that Mains had sex with the girl on four separate occasions from July to August 2018, according to The Daily Item. The incidents allegedly happened at the fire station where Mains worked, as well as the Unknown Riders Clubhouse, a motorcycle club in Sagon.
Detectives began their investigation in August after the girl's parents contacted police. On Friday, the fire company held an emergency meeting following Mains arrest.
"Once we found out, we took immediate action. Had him suspended, thrown out of the fire company. He is not allowed on the property, or he would be trespassing," Strong Fire Capt. John Paul Baluta said. "He is going to be expelled as a member, and we took the title of chief off him."
