Mayor Taps Interim Chief to Head Miami-Dade Fire Rescue

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has a new fire chief.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez appointed Alan Cominsky to the position Monday, according to the department. Cominsky, who joined the department in 1995, had serving as interm chief for the past firve months.
"He is an accomplished leader, offering over 25 years of progressive experience analyzing and facilitating practices and procedures designed to improve operational safety, economic feasibility and program effectiveness for a large metropolitan fire rescue and emergency response agency," the department stated in an online update announcing Cominsky's appointment.
Cominsky is a South Florida native and a graduate of Southwest Senior High School, according to his bio on Miami-Dade County's website. He holds bachelor’s and master's degrees in public administration from Barry University.
"Chief Cominsky has led the department with integrity since being appointed Interim Fire Chief on December 10, 2019,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said in a statement, according to WPLG-TV. “He has proven himself to be a dedicated professional throughout his 25 years of service to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. Chief Cominsky has demonstrated outstanding leadership, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am confident of his ability to continue to lead the department moving forward through these challenging times."
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue is the sixth-largest accredited department in the southeastern United States. It includes more than 70 fire stations and more than 2,000 uniformed firefighters.
