A Tennessee fire chief has abruptly resigned after 16 years in the position.
Franklin Fire Chief Rocky Garzarek immediately stepped down following "frank discussions" about "performance expectations, City Administrator Eric Stuckey wrote in a memo to the fire department, according to the Nashville Tennessean. Glen Johnson has been appointed interim chief.
"I appreciate Chief Garzarek’s 16 years of service to the City of Franklin and the many achievements of the department during this time," Stuckey wrote. "I want to offer my sincere thanks to Chief Garzarek for his service and wish him well in the future."
Garazarek, who became Franklin's chief in 2004, has spent more than 40 years in the fire service, according to his bio on the department's website. He began as a firefighter in 1977 in Hoover, AL.
