Veteran Tapped as WV City's New Fire Chief

Shawn Wanner was named fire chief of Charleston 24 years after her joined the fire department.

Charleston's mayor named the city's new fire chief Friday.

"I am honored to announce Shawn Wanner as Chief of the Charleston Fire Department,"said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin said in a statement. "Throughout his 24 years with CFD, Chief Wanner has worked his way through the ranks. He has a great knowledge of this department, this city and her people.”

Wanner, who most recently served as assistant chief, joined the fire department in 1996.

“I will continue to work diligently to provide the citizens of Charleston with quality fire and EMS service.” Wanner said.

In addiition to Wanner's promotion, Chad Jones was named administrative chief.

Wanner replaces Jeffrey Jackson, who retired last month.

“I want to thank Chief Jeff Jackson for his service to the City of Charleston. We wish him the best in his retirement," Shuler Goodwin said.
