NC Chief Charged with Falsifying Records

Feb. 8, 2022
Griffith Volunteer Fire Department Chief James Adam Berry has been charged with falsifying fire incident reports.

North Carolina Insurance Commission officials arrested and charged Griffith Fire Chief James Adam Berry with falsifying records.

Officials said that Berry willfully misstated the number of fire personnel responding to calls on fire incident reports to the state Fire Marshal's Office to obtain a higher fire insurance protection rating for his volunteer fire department.

He is also accused of falsifying fire incident reports to the Forsyth County Fire Marshal’s Office, according to WXII 12.

It’s alleged that Berry committed these offences from June of 2016 to October of 2021.

Berry was booked and released on a written promise to appear in court on March 10.

Officials in Forsyth County are working to ensure fire protection continues within the Griffith fire response area, with the Forsyth County Manager's Office and Forsyth County Emergency Services are monitoring the situation.
