Ex-Grace Chapel, NC, Fire Chief Charged with Embezzlement

Former Fire Chief Bryan Edwards is accused of falsifying the hours he worked at Grace Chapel Fire Department.

A former fire chief has been arrested for embezzlement.

Ex-Grace Chapel Fire Chief Bryan Jason Edwards, 49, was charged with one count of embezzlement over $100,000, common law forgery, and six counts of obtaining property by false pretense, according to Queen City News.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Edwards of obtaining $155,299 from the fire department by falsifying the hours he worked for the fire department from 2019 to 2023.

A secured bail of $50,000 has been set. He is due in court Wednesday.

"As of December 2023, Bryan Edwards resigned from the Grace Chapel Fire Department as Fire Chief. Bryan Edwards has not been affiliated with our organization since his resignation...“We want to remind everyone that this in no way represent the Fire Department’s nor our community’s character and values,” according to a statement posted on the department's Facebook page.
