“We're not happy with the judgment. We would like to see more years added on for severity of the crime and stealing this kind of money is not really showing a whole lot.”
That's what Vernon Center Fire Chief Anthony Doty had to say about the one to three year sentence the former treasurer received for stealing $309,000 from the department.
Jonnell Rose, who pleaded guilty to second-degree grand larceny, spent the money buy crypto currency, and make credit card payments and cash withdrawals, Spectrum Local News reported.
Doty called the sentence a slap in the face to the fire department as it was saving to purchase a new fire truck.
Oneida County Court Judge Michael Nolan also ordered Rose to pay the fire department $159,000 and $150,000 to an insurance company.
