Annual 'Surviving the Fire Service' Conference Planned for Oct. 3 in FL
The Second Annual Surviving The Fire Service Conference will be held on Oct. 3 at the Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
The event, billed as a behavioral health and cancer prevention conference, will be held in the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center starting at 8 a.m.
Dr. Juan Garcia, father of Miami Firefighter Rafael Garcia, a young firefighter with a promising career who died at 28 from a fast growing brain tumor.
Other speakers include Pat Morrison, the International Association of Fire Fighters assistant general president for health, safety and medicine, Captain Frank Leto, Deputy Director FDNY Counseling Unit, who will speak on the topic “Behavioral Health Challenges in the Fire Service.”
There will also be a panel discussion on Cancer in the Fire Service, as well as a presentation on tragedy and loss wthin the fire service from a chaplain’s perspective.
After closing remarks, there will be an IAFF social networking opportunity at Twin Peaks in Davie, FL
