TX Asst. Chief Leads Mass Resignation

Five New Boston firefighters have followed their assistant chief, hung up their gear and walked out the door.

“We decided to resign because we felt we had ineffective leadership, and there were some questionable acts going on,” now former Asst. Chief Michael Fuller told KSLA.

City Administrator Wayne Dial didn't pull punches on how he felt about the mass exodus saying they made less than 15 percent of the calls in the last six months. 

"...That’s okay. That was no great loss." he said. “They answered calls all weekend, this weekend without their help. So I’m not concerned with them leaving. I think the city is going to be better off without them.”

But Fuller doesn't agree.

“The thing that they have lost the most of, they have lost everybody that is medically certified except for one, and they have nobody with formal training and certification,” he said.

His resignation letter pointed to the leadership of Fire Chief Chris Taillon as well as the qualifications of other volunteer firefighters.
