New OH Chief Aims to Create Healthy Fire Department

Oct. 10, 2023
Frank McKinley comes to Cincinnati after a decades-long career with Dallas Fire-Rescue and will begin visiting fire stations immediately.

When Frank McKinley was sworn in as Cincinnati's fire chief, he promised to start the conversations needed to push the department ahead immediately.

“That’s the way solutions are developed,” Frank McKinley, who spoke about visiting all the fire stations in his first 30 days, said. “No solutions are going to be made behind the podium. They have to be gathered, they have to be understood, and then we will select the best decision.”

After a 28-year career with Dallas Fire-Rescue, McKinley is Cincinnati's 19th fire chief, Fox19.com reported

“Chief Frank McKinley brings decades of experience and a fresh perspective to our great city,” City Manager Cheryl Long said at the swearing in event. “His years in a large metropolitan city fire department will no doubt benefit our fire staff but the wonderful Cincinnatians that he will have the pleasure to serve.”

The former fire chief, Michael Washington, was fired earlier this year after allegations of making an unsafe workplace.
