Battle Creek Police Chief Shannon Bagley has added a title -- fire chief.
It came after Fire Chief Bill Beaty resigned after just shy of two years in the position.
Beaty, who was previously a deputy chief in Divernon, IL, has been in the fire service since 1987 said his departure is mutual, WOOD reported
City leaders say the change follows a department review that found leadership was “necessary to better align with the city’s performance goals and objectives.”
City Manager Rebecca Fleury thanked Beaty for his service to the city and department.
During his tenure, Beaty has promoted the need for a new fire station as well as merging crews between Station 1 and Station 3.
The department has 82 employees who respond to more than 9,000 calls annually.
“Our city has an incredible team of firefighters, including five highly capable battalion chiefs who I will continue to entrust with leading daily fire operations,” Bagley said in a statement.
