The Devine Volunteer Fire & Rescue chief, charged last week following a sexual harassment probe, resigned Tuesday.
Fire Chief Greg Atkinson, who had been with the department for a little over two years, was charged with official oppression-sexual harassment, KSAT reported.
"He used his position and tried to obtain favors because of his position," said Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown.
Atkinson voluntarily resigned, saying it's "in the best interest of the organization."
After his arrest, department officials wrote in a statement: "Chief Greg Atkinson of the Devine Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has been suspended pending the outcome of the Medina County sheriff's investigation. During this time, Assistant Chief Jessica Massey Martinez will serve as interim chief to ensure the department's continued leadership and operations."
