WAXHAW, N.C. --

UNION CO., N.C. -- A firefighter died on his way to a fire call in Union County Saturday afternoon.

It turned out to be a false alarm at a nearby school.

Todd Hage is the first Wesley Chapel firefighter to die in the line of duty. He was the only one in the firetruck that crashed on Waxhaw Indian Trail Road.

Investigators have not said what caused the crash, but there are no indications another vehicle was involved.

Hage joined the fire department in 2006. He left behind a wife and two young children.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 15 at the First Baptist Church Of Indian Trail, 732 Fairview Road, Indian Trail, N.C.

The funeral service will begin 11:30a.m. A procession of fire apparatus will escort Hage to Heritage Funeral & Cremation Services, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, N.C.
