Indiana Firefighter Killed in Tanker Rollover Crash

A firefighter with the Washington Township Fire Department was killed Sunday night when he lost control of the tanker while responding to a brush fire.

The driver lost control of the tanker as he tried to make a right turn. It rolled several times, and knocked over a number of utility pole, Fort Wayne Police told Indiana News Center staff.

 “The tanker truck was carrying a lot of water, and water obviously carries a lot of weight and momentum,” said Sgt. Mark Brooks, a city police spokesman, told reporters.

Indiana Michigan Power workers had to shut off the power to the live wires so responders could work at the scene safely.
