North Richland Hills firefighter Caleb Scott, a 29-year-old with two years on the job, died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack on duty.

A firefighter in the Dallas-Fort Worth area who celebrated his 29th birthday just last month has died after suffering a cardiac event while on duty.

North Richland Hills Fire-Rescue announced in a statement Thursday that firefighter Caleb Scott suffered cardiac arrest while he was at his assigned station just before 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Immediate life-saving measures were initiated and firefighter Scott was transported to Medical City North Hills hospital. Despite all efforts by hospital staff, Scott passed away later that evening.

"We are deeply saddened by Caleb’s sudden passing and offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends," North Richland Hills Fire Chief Stan Tinney wrote on Facebook. "The entire North Richland Hills Fire Department will continue to keep his family in our thoughts and prayers as we all navigate this difficult time."

Scott had been on the job for only two years in North Richland Hills, which is about 12 miles northeast of Fort Worth.
