TX Fire Captain Dies Days after Stroke at Station

Carrollton Fire Capt. Frazier Lee Holbert, a 30-year veteran firefighter, had just gone to bed following a call Sept. 9 when he suffered the medical emergency, and he passed away late Sunday.

A Texas fire captain died Sunday days after suffering a stroke while on duty.

Carrollton Fire Capt. Frazier Lee Holbert, 57, was hospitalized after he experienced the medical issue shortly after 3 a.m. Sept. 9 when he was working at Station 8, the U.S. Fire Administration stated in an alert. He had just gone to be following a call.

His colleagues later discovered Holbert unresponsive, and he was taken to the hospital. Eventually, he was transferred to another facility, where he passed away late Sunday, according to the USFA.

"Carrollton Fire Rescue is devastated by the loss of one of our own," Chief Gregg Salmi told KXAS. "Captain Holbert was a highly decorated 30-year veteran, an exceptional firefighter, a selfless teammate, and a tireless public servant. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time as we mourn this loss."

Holbert had been with the department since November 1989, serving in various roles. He was promoted to captain in 2007.

A Carrollton native, Holbert is survived by his wife and three children.
