Funeral Service Set for Montgomery, WV, Fire Chief

Funeral services for Montgomery Fire Chief Benny Filiaggi have been set for June 22.

Filiaggi, 62, was found unresponsive in his residence on June 14. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Earlier in the day during a conversation with the mayor, Filiaggi said he wasn't feeling well. 

He joined the Montgomery Fire Department in 1975 serving for 49 years.

He was hired as the paid firefighter at the fire department in 2012 and became fire chief in 2020. As former president of the Fayette County Firefighter's Association, he helped with developing the Fayette County Fire Training Center, according to his obituary. 

Filiaggi became a fire service instructor in the 1980s and trained countless firefighters. 

Visitaation will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. June 22 at Riverside High School.  The service will begin at 2 p.m.
