The Thomasville firefighter killed in a rollover crash earlier this month has been identified.
Bill Nix, 72, a passenger in the rig, was orounounced dead at the scene on Jan. 16.
The driver of the pumper, who was seriously injured, overcorrected while trying to regain control. The vehicle went off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned, Ozarks First reported.
When Nix retired from CFI Trucking in 2019, he joined the Thomasville Volunteer Fire Department. They had recently acquired a large military tanker, and needed someone with excellent driving skills and experience, according to his obituary.
In 2022, he was selected as the firefighter of the year.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at Trinity Worship Center. The service will begin at 3 p.m.
