An Indiana firefighter collapsed early Saturday as he prepared to respond to a call.
Ridgeville Assistant Fire Chief Don 'Hev' Caylor, 61, was apparently gearing up tp respond to a mobile home fire when he collapsed, WTHR reported.
Caylor, who had served as a firefighter for 40 years, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
“Hev dedicated his life to serving the Ridgeville community with unwavering courage, compassion, and a relentless commitment to helping others. His selflessness and bravery touched countless lives, and his presence brought light and strength to everyone around him. May we honor his memory by continuing to serve with the same passion and dedication he exemplified every day,” the fire department's statement read.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Department also issued a statement about Caylor's dedication to the community.
