Whitewater, MO, Fire Chief Killed Assisting after Tornado

Whitewater Fire Protection District Chief Garry Moore may have been electrocuted due to downed wires near a vehicle, the coroner said.

Firefighters and rescue personnel in Missouri are mourning the loss of a fire chief killed while checking on a stranded motorist after a tornado Wednesday night.

Whitewater Fire Protection District Fire Chief Garry Moore, 68, may have been electrocuted as the stranded vehicle he found was near downed power lines, according to The St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner Craig Williams said an autopsy is planned for Friday.

The tornado hit the Delta and Whitewater areas about 7 p.m.
