Veteran Lafayette, IN, Firefighter Found Dead in Station

Sgt. John Robinson spent nearly 30 years serving the Lafayette community with "unwavering courage and commitment."

Fire and rescue personnel in Lafayette are mourning the loss of a veteran firefighter.

Sgt. John Robinson was found dead on Monday in Fire Station 9.

During his nearly 30 year career, Robinson served the ciitizens "with unwavering courage and commitment. He was a true public servant, known for his bravery, leadership, and deep sense of duty," according to a notice on the Lafayette Police Department's Facebook page

Fire Chief Brian Alkire wrote in a statement to the Journal & Courier: "Our entire department is grieving the loss of one of our own. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Sgt. Robinson and ask the community to join us in honoring the memory of this brave firefighter, who gave everything in service to others."

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Funeral arrangments are pending.
