At Least Six South African Firefighters Killed Battling Wildfires

Paramedics found three firefighters deceased at the scene and others on fire.

At least six firefighters have died while battling a brush blaze in Boston in KwaZulu-Natal.

Paramedics found several people on fire and three firefighters deceased, Times Live reported.

Three other firefighters died at a hospital while others remained in critical condition. 

The incident occurred in an area characterised by difficult terrain. This tragedy brings the total number of lives lost recently due to runaway fires in the province to 13. 

“These brave individuals lost their lives while battling the blaze. We are heartbroken by the loss of these courageous workers who were fighting to protect others from harm. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this tragic event and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” Provincial co-operative governance and traditional affairs MEC Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi said.
