Firefighter Killed in Binghamton, NY, Identified

John R. Gaudet, an 11-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department, leaves behind a wife and three young children.

Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham earllier had announced that one firefighter was killed and two others injured while battling a fire in downtown Binghamton last night.

Now thwe mayor has confirmed that the deceased firefighter is John R. Gaudet, an 11-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department.

The 40-year-old Gaudet leaves behind a wife and three young children.

Gaudet died after a wall collapsed during last night's firefight. 

Two other Binghamton firefighters were injured and taken to Wilson Hospital for treatment. 

Both have since been released.
