A Susquehanna County assistant fire chief died Sunday of complications from injuries sustained in a recent brush fire.
Harford Volunteer Assistant Chief Chip Chidester died a day after his communitry turned out en masse to support him.
Last month, he fell and suffered a leg fracture while fighting a brush fire.
He told me he said, 'Charlene if I don't make a dollar today, I'm the richest man in the world,’” Charlene Batzel told WNEP. “He said, 'Look at all these people with all of the love and support of the community."
Harford Fire Chief Chad Batzel said Chidester will be missed.
"It's one of those things where it feels like you see it on the news, but now we are the news, now he is the news. It literally cannot get any closer to home than being right here in our own building."
Firefighters said he grew up in the firehouse where his father was the assistant chief.
