Chief Smith has 30 years in the fire service. Currently holding the rank of Deputy Fire Chief with the District of Columbia Fire & EMS Department.

Chief Smith holds degrees in Fire Science, Construction Management, and Public Administration, as well as a Certificate in Labor Law.

Chief Smith is a Graduate of the Executive Fire Officers program at the National Fire Academy. He also is a certified Municipal Manager from George Washington University.

Chief Smith often Lectures on Building Construction, Strategy and Tactics, Safety, Risk Management, and RIT Command.
