Shortly after 11 p.m. on Jan. 25, the Nash County 911 Center was receiving calls for flames coming from the roof of the Hard Luck Saloon at 813 East Nash Street in Spring Hope.
Fire departments from Spring Hope, Momeyer and Stanhope were dispatched.
The first-in fire units reported heavy fire showing from the roof area of a one- and two-story, 120-by-100-foot building. An aerial ladder was requested from the Bailey Fire Department.
Firefighters went in service using 2 1/2-inch lines trying to knock down the spreading fire that threatened a large storage area in the rear of the building.
The Bailey ladder arrived and went into service with its ladder pipe.
It took firefighters over one hour to contain the blaze to the front part of the Tavern.
Most of the first and second floor received heavy fire damage and the rest of the building received heavy smoke and water damage.
The Nash County Fire Marshal's office was requested to conduct the investigation.
More than 50 firefighters were at the scene along with two Nash County EMS units.
