Recent fires from around the country

DERBY, CT, JAN. 26, 2015 – At about 7:30 P.M., the Derby Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire. Companies responding to the scene reported a working fire from a distance due to the heavy fire showing from the home on top of a large hill. When units arrived on scene, they found a duplex heavily involved on the left-side apartment. Initial operations were difficult due to heavy winds and snow related to the blizzard warning that was in effect for the area. Ten people escaped from the structure without injury. SOMERS POINT, NJ, FEB. 27, 2015 – The City of Somers Point Fire Department responded to a report of a boat on fire at Bay and Maryland avenues. Firefighters fought a difficult fire as the vessel was still in the water, which was frozen over, and also endured sub-zero temperatures. Foam was used to extinguish the stubborn fire and smoke was visible for miles.
