The driver of a tractor-trailer died after his rig left the road and caught fire in Nash County on Aug. 18.
Fire Departments from Bailey and Middlesex along with Nash EMS were called North Carolina US 264 West near mile marker 28 around 3 p.m.
Dispatchers told crews that they were receiving numerous reports that the truck went through the guard rail and collided with several trees at the bottom of an embankment. Crews from Bailey reported that they could see a large column of smoke while they were responding.
They found the truck engulfed in fire with the driver trapped in the truck.
Two other truck drivers tried to render assistance to the trapped driver, but they pushed back by several explosions and heavy fire.
Firefighters used foam to extinguish the fire in about 40 minutes.
