London Fire Brigade firefighters rescued 25 people from a fire in a multi-story building on Finchley Road in Hampstead on Oct. 26.
Two people, including a pregnant woman, were rescued from the roof by ladder.
"Firefighters worked extremely hard in strenuous conditions to contain the fire and bring it under control. On arrival crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and led over 20 people to safety from inside," Station Manager David George said. "We also used one of our turntable ladders, which is like a cherry picker, to rescue a further two people from the roof.
At the height of the the fire, 10 fire apparatus with over 70 firefighters operated.
The fire destroyed the first floor shop and caused extensive smoke damage to the upstairs living areas.
Eventually, six fire engines and three aerial platforms were needed to contain the fire.
Firefighters from Addington, Euston, Finchley, Hendon, Kentish Town, and West Hampstead fire stations responded.
