Portland firefighters were called out to two working fires within an hour on Jan. 4.
Fire crews were called to Money Saver Mini-Storage at 1:13 pm and found a fire in the two-story metal building. The structure house 453 storage units and is part of a six building complex.
Initial reports said two people were in the building and a third alarm was called, bringing additional crews from Clackamas and Gresham.
The two were later found and uninjured and officials say less than 100 units suffered fire damage.
At 2:19 p.m. Portland and Gresham units were dispatched to an apartment fire at 5102 SE 118th Ave.
With many crews already tied up and icy road conditions, it took 19 minutes for the appropriate apparatus to arrive and put out the fire. It was contained with an extinguisher and then a hoseline was deployed.
Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen of a two bedroom apartment. The cause of the fire was an unattended burner on a stove and damages were listed at approximately $130,000.
