Firefighters on the west side of Baltimore County battled a three-alarm apartment fire in Pikesville that started shortly after 10 p.m. on April 19.
Baltimore County Fire Department Engine 2 reported smoke showing in the lobby area of a six-story apartment building at 130 Slade Avenue (Fire Box 2-25) and passed command to the officer on Pikesvile Volunteer Fire Company Engine 321.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke blowing out several windows on the fourth floor in the rear of the building and were getting reports of multiple residents trapped in their units.
A second alarm was struck, bringing additional resources to the scene as firefighters began attacking the fire using handlines Truck 18's aerial and the ladder pipe while interior crews advanced additional lines and performed searches.
Several residents were assisted out of the building by firefighters, including at least two occupants who were safely evacuated via Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Company Truck 313's aerial.
Command eventually requested a third alarm and additional EMS resources, plus an MTA bus to shelter the displaced occupants.
