PASSAIC, NJ, SEPT. 26—On arrival, the Passaic Fire Department found a fire that involved a three-story occupied multiple dwelling, extending to a two-story dwelling with heavy fire conditions. Handlines were stretched to knock down the heavy fire in the alleyway between the buildings. Interior crews reported fire on all floors of the original fire building. Command withdrew members and began exterior operations. A third alarm was struck, which brought mutual aid from a total of nine other departments.

The fire spread within minutes throughout the original building and then to both exposures. A second and a third alarm were struck. A report of a double entrapment came. STAMFORD, CT, OCT. 3—Crews from the Stamford Fire Department (SFD) found a boat that was well-involved close to the dock. While Engine 3 began to stretch lines, the boat, which was adrift, floated away from the dock. It came to rest against multiple other boats, and the fire immediately spread to three other boats and a floating tiki bar. Companies began to fight the fire from land and sea. SFD’s fire boat was out of service for maintenance, so two mutual aid boats from the FDNY and one each from the Darien, Greenwich and Norwalk fire departments came to the scene. An explosion of the original boat’s fuel tank caused a floating fuel fire. The fire was put under control in one-and-a-half hours.

NEW ORLEANS, JUNE 18—At least 27 New Orleans Fire Department units and 80 personnel were on scene for a three-alarm fire at a five-story hotel. While making an interior attack, the fire began to intensify, which prompted the third alarm. Companies were ordered out of the building. In the process of exiting, two of the firefighters got separated from their crew. One of those firefighters became trapped. As he was running out of air, he made it to a window. He was rescued by firefighters who climbed an aerial ladder to the fifth floor window to help him to safety.
