“UFC versus NFPA 13”
Basic – Kevin J. Kelly, P.E.
The Federal government has adopted a program for all of its Department of Defense property facilities called the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC). The objective of the UFC is to streamline the military criteria system by eliminating duplication of information, increasing reliance on private-sector standards, and creating a more efficient development and publishing process. However, some contractors who are responsible for layout and detailing of sprinkler systems are finding a lack of consistency with industry best practices and the installation requirements found in NFPA 13. The discussion will focus on how to resolve these issues and address the contractor's concerns.
