D.C. Firefighters Rescue Residents from Building Blaze

Heavy fire was showing from the four-story apartment building as crews on aerial ladders made rescues.

Firefighters in the nation's capital rescued several residents from an apartment building fire on New Year's Eve.

One of the victims is in serious condition while the other is critical.

Other residents were rescued from the top floor by firefighters on an aerial ladder, WTTG reported. 

Over 100 firefighters were involved in the operation at the four-story building in Columbia Heights, according to Vito Maggiolo, the public information officer for D.C. Fire EMS. 

Residents evacuated were kept warm in a bus.

The cause remains under investigation.
