A collision between a train and a truck sparked a fire that left several injured and caused over a million dollars in damage in Wollsdorf, Austria.
The collision happened Monday morning with the St. Ruprecht an der Raab, Kühwiesen, and Gleisdorf fire brigades being dispatched to a traffic accident involving a train, according to FireWorld.at. The train was running on the Gleisdorf–Weiz line.
Firefighters encountered heavy damage to the truck, which was on fire and heavy fire involving the train. The Weiz Volunteer Fire Department was called for additional support.
According to police, the truck driver likely missed a traffic signal and turned onto the tracks when they were struck by the Styrian State Railways train. The truck's fuel tank broke with the impact of the collision and engulfed the truck in flames but the driver was able to self-evacuate but was flown to a hospital with serious injuries.
Eight people on the training, including the operator of the train, were taken to the hospital with various injuries.
Four fire departments with nearly 70 emergency personnel responded to handle fire suppression, medical treatment and securing the scene.
