Sept. 16--Things got hot at a Miami Fire Rescue station on Friday morning. Literally.

At about 8:20 a.m., firefighters smelled smoke from the vents in the dining room when they noticed flames in the attic area of the fire station located at 1103 Northwest 7th St.

"As they further investigated they see that this is a very sizable amount of flames that required additional units to respond," said Miami fire spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll Jr.

The firefighters opened the ceiling and were able to put out the flames. About 28 firefighters were at the scene on Friday morning.

Carroll said the cost of the damage has not been determined, but it was "minimal" and no injuries were reported.

Two investigators and an electrical inspector were at the fire station Friday afternoon. The cause of the blaze is still unknown.

Station No. 3 is located in a three-story building, which also houses one rescue truck, one fire engine, seven firefighters, administrative offices, a credit union and a garage.
