CAPITAN, N.M. (AP) -- Firefighters cleared a line around a lightning-sparked blaze that has burned about 30,000 acres in rural south-central New Mexico, bringing containment to 35 percent Monday.

The lines appeared to be holding, despite high wind on Sunday, officials said. Crews have been working to burn out fuels between the blaze in the Lincoln National Forest and the small community of Arabela.

The fire, reported May 15, burned 12 cabins and several outbuildings.

The cost to fight the blaze stood at nearly $2.8 million, officials said.
