Two GA Firefighters Fall Through Burning House's Floor

One of the Hall County firefighters suffered a shoulder injury from the fall while battling a home fire late Sunday.

Two Hall County firefighters fell through the floor of a burning North Hall home late Sunday, with one of them taken to the hospital for a possible shoulder injury.

Both were OK, but one of the firefighters, Evan Keyes, 22, of Hiawassee, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for a shoulder evaluation, said Hall County Fire Services Capt. Zachary Brackett.

He was released from the hospital and "is resting at home," he said.

The incident occurred while firefighters were responding to a fire Feb. 3 in the 4600 block of Swimming Canoe Trail in a subdivision off Highland Drive, east of Mount Vernon Road.

Units arrived to find heavy fire from the attic of a 4,000-square-foot home. The incident was reported about 10 p.m., Brackett said.

No other injuries were reported, but four occupants of the house — two adults and two juveniles — were displaced, he said.

The American Red Cross was notified for assistance, Brackett said.

The cause of the blaze is undetermined. The Hall County Fire Marshal's office is investigating, Brackett said.
