WA Firefighter Injured in Suspicious House Fire

March 4, 2019
Frigid temperatures created issues with Spokane firefighters’ breathing equipment as they battled blaze.

One firefighter was injured and a woman was detained in connection to a fire that broke out in northeast Spokane.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames throughout the first floor of a home on near Pittsburg Street at around 7 p.m. Saturday night, according to a news release from the Spokane Fire Department. Extremely cold weather caused problems with firefighters’ breathing equipment, but firefighters were able to contain the fire and worked through the night to extinguish the blaze.

The firefighter suffered minor burns.

A woman who was in the house was examined for smoke inhalation and later detained under suspicion of causing the fire.
