SOMERS, Connecticut - One person was killed and two firefighters injured in a two-alarm house fire Thursday night in a residential neighborhood not far from the East Longmeadow line.

According to the Somers Fire Department, an occupant of the home at 60 Juniper Hill Drive was trapped inside by the flames and unable to make it outside as the fire spread through the house.

Officials are not releasing the person’s name to the press pending notification of family.

Other occupants of the house were able to escape safely with the help of neighbors, according to the fire department.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during overhaul operations after the fire had been knocked down. They required treatment at the hospital.

According to the fire department, the home was fully involved with flame upon their arrival. Firefighters began conducting a search of areas of the home that were still accessible, but they were driven back as the flames spread quickly.

All firefighters were ordered out, and the department switched to an exterior attack.

In addition to Somers, other fire departments assisting through mutual aid were Hazardville Fire District, West Stafford and Crystal Lake, Ellington, Shaker Pines, Tolland, Broadbrook, and the East Longmeadow Fire Department.
